We believed that the best way to 1. divide up our volunteer roles and 2. encourage people to volunteer, was to create 5 teams that would oversee the major aspects of the service. While there are still many individual roles, these 5 teams would be the overarching structure of our volunteer organization.
The Worship Team consists of the men and women leading our worship services. This is the worship leaders who are responsible for helping to design and lead the songs during the service, and the students who sing on the praise team. The worship team is lead by two student team leaders who help facilitate rehearsals and recruit new volunteers.
The Welcome Team consists of 3 “sub” teams that forward facing towards the hospitality and people aspect of the service. The Welcome Team is comprised of The Parking Team, Door Greeting Team, and the Prayer Team. The Parking team serves as security around the DC campus before and after the service and help get people excited for the service. The Door Greeting Team ensures that everyone who walks through the door receives a high five as they’re entering the building. The Prayer Team is available in the back of the worship space all during the service to pray or talk to anyone who needs prayer or counseling. We believe in the power of the Spirit, and we want to be there for students at their highest and lowest points. The Welcome Team is lead by 3 team leaders, one over each of the subsequent teams.
The Logistics Team is responsible for cleaning and setting up the space, preparing communion, and running our phone check-in booths. We encourage students to turn in their phones during the service in exchange for a small donation to Sparrow’s Promise, a local charity. The Logistics Team handles the behind the scenes aspects of the service, as well as the hundreds of phones we receive every week. The Logistics Team is headed up by one team leader.
The Media Team is the driving force behind our marketing and advertising and our most “future-focused” team. By roaming the service to take pictures and videos, we capture the atmosphere and feeling of the service so we can further promote the service to new students. Their investment in today’s service pay’s dividends into next semester’s projects.
Our Technology Team is the power behind all the tech we use during the service. They work quickly and silently behind the scenes to ensure the smooth integration of our audio, visual, and lighting elements. They are a vital part of our operations and ensure we can leverage the power of technology to better connect with people.
